LESSON 2. In-sik and His Brother

Getting Ready

A: Let's go to the zoo. How does that sound ?

B: It sounds good. Let's go

 

A: Sorry, I can't come. I must do my homework.

B: I See. So you must stay at home.

 

A: Why do you feel so sad ?

B: Because my English score is too low.

 

A: What were you doing at this hour last night?

B: What was I doing at 8 ? I was sleeping on the train.

 

A: Do I pay you or Jane for the ticket ?

B: You can give the money to me.

 

A: Give my love to your family.

B: I sure will.

 

Part I.

Mike just changed his clothes. He is coming out of his room now. His mother is waiting for him.

 

Mike: Are you waiting for me ?

Mother: Yes. What were you doing ?

Mike: I was changing my clothes. I'm sorry.

Mother: Oh, that's all right. But it's almost eight.

Mike: Is it really ? Well, then I must go now.

Mother: Yes, you must.

Mike: How do I look in these new clothes, Mom ?

Mother: You look really great!

Mike: Thanks, Mom. Okay, I'm on my way then.

Mother: Oh, Mike, it's raining outside. You'ill get wet. I'll give my umbrella to you.

Mike: Okay, Mom.

Mother: We are going to eat dinner outside tonight.

Mike: That sounds good. I'll be home on time. See you this evening.

Mother: Good. Take care. See you then.

 

Part II.

This is a picture of In-sik. He took this picture last year. He looks tired in the picture. What was he doing ? Was he studying ? No he wasn't. He was watching TV and listening to pop music.

Last year, In-sik was a lazy boy.. He went to bed late every night. He got up late every morning. What did he go to bed late and get up late? Well, because he watched TV or listened to pop music until 11 or 12 o'clock.

How about exercise ? He never did enough exercise. How about studying ? He never studied hard, either. So he could not be a good student at school. In classes, he did not listen to his teachers carefully. He did not ask them questions, either.

In-sik has a brother in high school. His name is In-ho. He is a good high school student. He was a good student in middle school, too.

He was not like In-sik. He did not watch TV or listen to pop music so much. He studied every evening and went to bed at about 10. In the morning, he got up at 6 and went for a jog. He was never late for school. He did well in classes, too. Anyway, he was very different from In-sik.

One day, In-sik came home after school and saw his mother. She looked sad. Whay did she look so sad ?

In-sik's teacher told her on the telephone about In-sik's low score on an English exam. The teacher said some bad things to his mother. In-sik knew this and he felt very sad, too.

In-sik changed his way of life from that day. Now, he follows the way of his brother In-ho.He studies hard with In-ho every night. He exercises with his brother every morning, too. So his father and mother are very proud of him and look happy.
